Punjab Inspector General of Police Dr Usman Anwar paid rich tribute to police martyrs who laid down their lives in the 2008 GPO Chowk blast, the private media channel reported.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Anwar recalled that on this day in 2008, 16 officers and personnel of the Punjab Police embraced martyrdom in the deadly attack. He said the martyrs included two assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs) and 14 other police personnel.
The IG Police said the sacrifices of the GPO Chowk martyrs would always remain alive in the nation’s memory, adding that every officer of Lahore Police stands on the front line to protect the country and its people.
Dr Usman Anwar also stated that the Punjab Police had provided jobs to the family members of the martyrs, stressing that all available resources were being utilised to ensure the welfare of the heirs of the martyred police personnel.

Chairing a meeting, the interior minister reviewed the performance of the FIA’s Immigration Wing and the ongoing campaign against illegal immigration and human trafficking.
The meeting also discussed actions against professional beggar mafias.
Mohsin Naqvi directed the concerned authorities to take the last indiscriminate and strict action against mafias involved in illegal immigration.
