Flour prices have witnessed a sharp increase in Chaman over the past week following the suspension of flour supply from Punjab.
According to reports, the price of a 100-kilogram bag of flour has risen by Rs2,500 within a week.
According to the Market Association due to the disruption in supply from Punjab prices of the flour have increase that has added to the problems of the public.
In Chaman flour prices have risen dramatically with the price of a 50-kilogram bag jumping by Rs1,000 to Rs1,200 compared to last week.
Citizens criticized that the district administration has failed to control prices and has left low-income families struggling to afford basic food items.
The price of a 50-kg flour bag has increased from Rs5,000 to Rs6,300 that further adding to public concern.
Chicken shortage could occur soon: poultry industry warns
Earlier, it was reported that the poultry industry had warned that a chicken shortage may occur in the coming months due to heavy taxes on producers.
Asif Gondal, General Secretary of Broiler Farms, said the industry is facing a serious crisis.
He said taxes on chicken and related products have reached around 65 per cent.
Adding, he said, maintaining supply is already difficult during shortages.
He warned that higher taxes could make chicken almost unavailable in the market within two months.
Asif Gondal said the cost of a chick is less than Rs20, but producers pay about Rs10 in tax per chick.
He said these taxes have pushed the poultry industry to the brink.
He urged Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to take notice of the situation. He warned that the crisis could be worse than previous shortages.
Pakistan’s weekly inflation edges up as food prices surge
Pakistan’s weekly inflation rose slightly last month, increasing by 0.24 percent compared to the previous week, while showing a 3.75 percent rise compared to the same period last year, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported.
According to the weekly SPI report, out of 51 essential items tracked, prices of 17 items went up, 14 items fell, and 20 remained stable.
Chicken saw the sharpest weekly increase at 11.11 percent, followed by chilli powder (3.08%), eggs (2.88%), and shirting fabric (1.64%). Other items registering modest rises included firewood, cooking oil, mustard oil, energy saver bulbs, pulse moong, and beef.
