Accused with clean record dies in Kot Addu police custody, SHO suspended

Accused died in police custody

An accused man, Imran, died early Tuesday morning while in police custody at Kot Addu City Police Station, sparking an official inquiry and public protests.

Police said they had arrested Imran in connection with a case under Section 365B. His health reportedly worsened while in custody, and authorities transferred him to a hospital with the help of Rescue services, but he died on the way.

Hospital doctors confirmed that Imran’s death was medical in nature. The case dates back to December 26, 2025, when a kidnapping complaint under Section 365B was filed by Sajida Bibi against unknown suspects. During the investigation, police arrested and nominated Imran in connection with the alleged kidnapping of 17-year-old Anam Bashir.

Following the incident, District Police Officer (DPO) Mansoor Qamar announced that authorities would take strict action against any negligent officials. He confirmed that six police officers, including SHO Saeeda Khaliq have already been suspended, and further disciplinary measures are expected once the inquiry concludes. A special team has been formed to investigate the circumstances of Imran’s death.

Meanwhile, the deceased’s relatives accused the police of causing Imran’s death through violence. They held a protest outside the hospital, blaming police brutality, and temporarily blocked the road, disrupting traffic.
