The Punjab government has decided to allow vehicle owners from other provinces and the federal areas to register their vehicles in Punjab.
This means that owners can now transfer their vehicles to Punjab by only paying a small fee.
Transfer vehicle registrations to Punjab
Director General Excise and Taxation Punjab, Umar Sher Chatha, said vehicle owners will need to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the province or federal area where the vehicle is currently registered.
After receiving the NOC, Excise and Taxation Punjab will verify the vehicle and complete the registration process.
Umar Sher Chatha said many vehicles from other provinces and federal areas run on Punjab roads.
However, their token tax and other fees go to other provinces.
This step will increase Punjab’s revenue and save vehicle owners from visiting offices in other provinces repeatedly.
He added that excise officials will check vehicle records using a modern online system.
After the verification is done, the vehicle will be registered in Punjab and assigned a new number plate.
A special software has been prepared with the help of the Punjab Information Technology Board to quickly check the data of the said vehicle.
Officials said the service will start this month in Lahore and other major cities.
It will then gradually expand to all districts, allowing vehicle owners to transfer and register their vehicles across Punjab.
The excise department said this initiative will make it easier for citizens.
It is also expected to discourage the fake registrations and illegal number plates.
And all this while helping maintain a proper and transparent record of vehicles in the province.
