The Punjab government has allowed the re-registration of vehicles registered in other provinces or under federal authorities to be transferred and re-registered in Punjab.
The move aims to bring thousands of vehicles already operating on Punjab’s roads into the province’s tax system, while making the registration process simpler for vehicle owners.
The applicants can visit the official website of the Excise department, or they can also use the “Dastak app” for online services.
DG Excise Punjab statement
Speaking about the initiative, Punjab’s Director General of Excise, Omar Sheikh Chatha, said owners can now re-register their vehicles in Punjab by paying the prescribed transfer fee along with a small additional charge. The process requires a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the province or federal authority where the vehicle is currently registered.
Once the NOC is obtained, Punjab Excise officials will verify the vehicle’s records online and issue a new Punjab registration number and number plate. Vehicle owners will also receive a new Punjab smart registration card.
Transfer fees currently range from around Rs2,750 for vehicles up to 1000cc, Rs5,500 for vehicles between 1000cc and 1800cc, and about Rs11,000 for higher engine capacities. Larger or newly registered vehicles may also be charged a percentage of their assessed value.
The initiative is expected to ease registration for vehicle owners who live and work in the province, while ensuring that vehicles using Punjab’s roads contribute to local transport and infrastructure costs.
