Which PHEV is better JAECOO J7 or Chery Tiggo 8?

JAECOO J7 or Chery Tiggo 8

The launch of the Chery Tiggo 8 Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) has added fresh competition to Pakistan’s growing market for electrified Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), putting it directly up against the ‘Jaecoo J7 PHEV’, which arrived earlier this year.

The Jaecoo J7 PHEV was introduced in October as a five-seat SUV. At the time, it stood out for offering a plug-in hybrid powertrain, modern features and a competitive price in its segment. It is still seen as a strong option for buyers looking for fuel-efficient vehicles with the best performance.

Chery and J7

Now, Chery has entered the competition by introducing the ‘Cherry Tiggo 8 PHEV’. As compared to J7, it is a seven-seater, suitable for larger families. It is bigger, more practical and uses the same type of plug-in hybrid technology.

Both vehicles come from the same parent group, ‘Chery Group’, with a common country of origin, China. They are built around similar PHEV systems, combining a petrol engine with an electric motor to offer lower fuel consumption and the option of limited electric-only driving. Their prices are also close enough to place them in direct competition.

Comparison

While doing a comparison, the Tiggo 8 appears to offer more space and flexibility due to its third row of seats. This could appeal to buyers who regularly travel with more passengers or need extra cargo room. The Jaecoo J7, however, remains more compact and may suit drivers who prefer a slightly smaller vehicle for city use.

The Chery costs Rs10,999,000, and the price of the J7 is only Rs10,499,000; the J7 is more cost-effective as compared to the Tiggo 8. In contrast, there are seven airbags in the Jaecoo J7 and 10 in the Chery model.

The arrival of the Tiggo 8 PHEV gives buyers more choice at a time when interest in hybrid vehicles is rising. With fuel costs remaining high, the demand for plug-in hybrids is increasing deliberately.
