Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan on Tuesday called upon the judiciary to ensure speedy justice, asking how long the courts would wait for “wonder boys and supermen”.
Addressing the media at the Taj Marble Factory checkpoint Barrister Gohar calling for swift justice, political reconciliation, and adherence to constitutional rights said efforts were made to meet the Chief Justice of Pakistan, but the meeting could not take place due to his busy schedule.
He added that they waited for nearly three hours, emphasizing that meeting the PTI founder is their constitutional and legal right. He clarified that only the founder’s three sisters are scheduled to meet him, while others gather merely to express solidarity.
Commenting on allegations against the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, he said the PTI-led KP government should not be accused without evidence, while also stressing that the provincial government must avoid actions that invite criticism. “Those who make allegations should also bring proof,” he said.
He highlighted that a verdict was announced in the Al-Qadir case on January 17, 2025, yet no appeal has been fixed for hearing for the past year. He added that for over a year, PTI founder Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi have not been granted bail. Barrister Gohar urged the judiciary to ensure justice is delivered at people’s doorsteps, warning that when justice is denied, society moves towards lawlessness, including mob violence.
“People cannot wait forever for supermen or wonder boys,” he said, urging the judiciary to hear cases related to the PTI founder and decide them on merit.
He questioned Bushra Bibi’s conviction, stating that there are no corruption allegations against her.
Barrister Gohar categorically denied any backdoor contacts, including with the establishment, saying that if such contacts ever took place, the party would not hide them. “At present, we have no contact with anyone, including the establishment,” he said.
He said the appointment of Allama Raja Nasir Abbas and Mahmood Khan Achakzai as opposition leaders carries a major responsibility. Calling for an end to confrontational politics, he said nothing could be achieved by “grabbing collars” and urged all sides to set aside personal egos. He expressed confidence that Achakzai would play an effective role.
Speaking about internal party matters, Barrister Gohar said he avoids discussing such issues publicly, adding that certain matters were discussed in a parliamentary party meeting, which he later postponed. He stressed that PTI harbors no hostility towards political opponents and believes reconciliation is the better path forward.
He reiterated that PTI stands with Pakistan, the armed forces, and state institutions, adding that whenever national interest was at stake, the party extended full support. He welcomed the notification of opposition leaders, calling it a positive step for parliament and democracy, and appreciated the messages delivered by both opposition leaders in their recent speeches.
Criticizing the government’s approach, he said that shaking hands with one hand while striking with the other would not improve the situation. “If the government continues to use force, people will have no option but to protest,” he warned.
Barrister Gohar announced that February 8 would be observed as a symbolic day, marking what he termed the theft of PTI’s mandate. He said the party would record a peaceful protest on the day and appealed to the public to observe a shutter-down and wheel-jam strike.
He asserted that PTI’s presence remains visible and that its founder does not need any electoral symbol. He also noted that PTI’s case is pending before the Election Commission due to a stay order.
Commenting on the opposition leader’s notification, Barrister Gohar said Nawaz Sharif is the head of his party and any consultation regarding the notification would be an internal party matter. He thanked the Speaker for issuing the notification and said he did not believe anyone else played a role in the decision.
