Chairman Pakistan People’s Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that in coordination with Muslim countries Pakistan has taken a collective decision to promote stability in the Middle East to become the part of the Gaza peace board as part of broader efforts.
During an interview Bilawal Bhutto said it is important that Pakistan’s presence in such international forums where critical discussions on peace are taking place.
“Pakistan to be “in the room” so the country could effectively present its stance and, more importantly, highlight the voice and concerns of the Palestinian people” he added.
Bilawal said that Pakistan has consistently supported the right of Palestinians to self-determination and the establishment of a peaceful and secure homeland from the very first.
He said that the government and people of Pakistan remain dedicated to supporting for a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue through diplomatic and collective international efforts.
Yesterday, in a historic development, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif signed the Gaza Board of Peace accord in Davos. These signatures make Pakistan an official part of the Gaza Board of Peace accord.
The US President Donald Trump and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif were seen exchanging pleasantries. The Prime Minister was further thanked by Trump for signing the accord.
Pakistan is not the only muslim majority country to be present in the Board of Peace. A joint statement was given by multiple muslim-majority countries in which they welcomed the invitation by the United States of America’s President Donald Trump to join the Gaza “Board of Peace.”
These countries included the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Türkiye, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.
Trump also delivered a speech at this event. He said the Board of Peace will have wide powers, and the body can act freely with other bodies, organisations inlcuding the United Nations.
Trump has critisized UN in the past, but today he acknowledged its potential and said it holds tremendous value for global peace efforts.
He further added that the Board of Peace and the UN working together will be historic and called it a unique step for the world, one that would cause problems in the Middle East, hopefully.
Trump praised the Board’s scope and influence and said that it could potentially become the most powerful body ever created. As the board chairman, Trump said he was honoured.
He further claimed that the Board was functioning smoothly and most countries were eager to join and that the Board will keep working with partener inlcuding the UN.
Critics of Trump in International media noted that Trump has often questioned multilateral institutions, but these remarks signal and sifter tone on the UN.
