Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, while supporting the creation of new provinces in the country, has said that there is nothing wrong with new provinces and no one should be afraid of the decision.
While talking to Think Fest in Lahore, Khawaja Asif said that there is nothing wrong with creating new provinces in the State and no one should be afraid of this decision. Adding to it, the defence minister said that two things were dropped in the 27th amendment: one was about local government, which had many objections. He said that instead of considering local government as a threat, consider it like a nursery. The whole world knows New York Mayor Mamdani, and this is the biggest example.
18th amendment
Khawaja Asif said that the 18th Amendment guaranteed devolution, but it never happened. He added that is why I called the 18th Amendment a fraud, which many people found very bad. He said that if politicians want support, they must first win hearts of the 250 million Pakistanis.
Local govt not a threat
The Defence Minister said that most of the people in our current parliament have graduated from General Zia’s local government. He said, “There is no threat to anyone from the local government. If there is a threat, it is only to the bureaucracy because its powers will be reduced and given to local government. But I don’t know why we are afraid of what will happen if this happens, such and such a political party will come.”
Khawaja Asif added, “The issue of the national syllabus was also dropped in the 27th Amendment. May God grant that the discussion that is taking place today will yield results and that the two clauses that our party has mentioned will also be included in the constitutional amendment.”
