ICC charges Jones with five anti-corruption breaches, imposes suspension

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has charged United States (US) batsman Aaron Jones with five serious breaches of its Anti-Corruption Code and suspended him from all cricketing activities with immediate effect.

In a statement released by the ICC, the governing body said Jones has been given 14 days to respond to the allegations. During this period, the 31-year-old will remain ineligible to play cricket at any level.

Jones was part of the US men’s team training camp in Sri Lanka, where preparations were underway for the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

While the US has yet to announce its final squad, reports suggested a 15-member team was expected to be selected from the 18 players attending the camp. Jones’ suspension now rules him out of contention, dealing a significant setback to the American side.

According to the ICC, most of the charges relate to the 2023–24 Bim10 tournament held in Barbados, which falls under the jurisdiction of Cricket West Indies (CWI). Two additional charges are reportedly linked to international matches.

The allegations against Jones include match-fixing, improperly influencing the outcome, progress or conduct of matches, failure to report corrupt approaches promptly, refusal to cooperate with an investigation, failure to provide complete information to the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit, and concealment or tampering with evidence.

The ICC clarified that the action against Jones forms part of a wider investigation and warned that further charges against other players or individuals may follow in the coming days.

Jones made his international debut for the United States in 2019 and has since represented the team in 52 One Day Internationals and 48 Twenty20 Internationals. He was one of the standout performers for the US at the 2024 T20 World Cup, scoring a memorable 94 against Canada and an unbeaten 36 in the team’s historic victory over Pakistan. In addition to his international career, Jones has featured in several prominent T20 leagues around the world, including the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Major League Cricket (MLC) and the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
