PTA announces 5G spectrum auction

PTA 5G auction

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced the date of the 5G spectrum auction in Pakistan.

According to media reports, the 5G spectrum auction will be held on March 10, 2026. However, the reports confirmed that the detailed schedule of the auction would be revealed after consultations with all the stakeholders.

The detailed timeline will provide telecom operators enough time to prepare. The PTA confirmed that the auction would be transparent, and the telecommunication authority urged bidders to review the necessary information carefully.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority said that using social media carefully is a shared responsibility of all citizens.

The PTA urged citizens to use social media responsibly and avoid sharing illegal, hateful, defamatory, or false content, which can damage the reputation of state institutions, the judiciary, or individuals.

Several news reports confirmed that, according to the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), 2016, sharing illegal, hateful, and defamatory content is a punishable crime.

Preparations for the launch of 5G services in Pakistan are picking up pace, with both the government and local mobile phone manufacturers moving to ensure that affordable devices are ready by the time networks go live.

Officials say local assemblers and manufacturers are aiming to make around two million 5G enabled smartphones available by the time services are launched. Of these, about 0.5 million handsets have already been assembled or manufactured, showing early readiness on the device side even before the commercial rollout begins.

The government is also pushing for instalment-based sales to make 5G phones easier to afford, especially as households face tight economic conditions. Authorities want entry-level 5G smartphones to be available at prices starting from around Rs30,000, a move seen as key to encouraging mass adoption.
