Ramadan 2026: Where fasts will be longest and shortest?

Ramadan 2026

With the holy month of Ramadan 2026 just around the corner a week from now, details on fasting hours across various sections of the world have come into light.

Muslims worldwide are busy preparing themselves spiritually, as well as many Muslims become aware of the differences in the length of daily fasts this year.

Longest Fasts in Northern Countries

Muslims who live in northern regions on the globe can look forward to following some of the longest fasts in 2026.

Countries like north Russia, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Finland will be having extended days and the fasting period will be more than 16 hours.

In various parts, the fast may even extend for nearly 20 hours because of the late sunset.

Islamic scholarship has explained that in areas that have abnormal hours of daylight, too long or too short, believers can follow the days of fasting according to the routine in Makkah or the moderate city close to them in order to ease and balance.

Shorter Fasts – near the Equator

In contrast, people in countries nearer the equator and southern hemisphere will experience lesser fasting hours.

Nations including Brazil, South Africa, Chile, New Zealand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Kenya, are expected to observe fasts ranging between 11 and 14 hours.

Ramadan 2026 is likely to start from February 19, but the final date depends on the sightings of the moon and could be on February 18 in some countries.

Compared to last year, fasting hours in Pakistan are likely to be a little shorter, thus bringing some relief to worshippers.

Bread and Naan Prices to Remain the Same

Meanwhile, with the rise in the cost of flour and gas, bakers have communicated temporary relief to consumers.

The Pakistan Non-Bakers Association has decided that the prices of roti and naan would not be changed till the 30th of Ramzan.

The decision was made at the General Council meeting which was attended by representatives from Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Murree, Talagang as well as surrounding areas.

Bakers however, warned that prices may rise after Eid due to mounting costs.
