WhatsApp is reportedly preparing to launch a new feature called “Close Friends” for statuses, which is similar to Instagram’s Close Friends option.
The WABetaInfo confirmed that after the launch of the new “Close Friends” feature, WhatsApp users will be able to share statuses with selected individuals.
The Close Friends feature will allow users to create their own private list of people, and their statuses will be shown to them. It will be entirely similar to Instagram’s “Close Friend” story feature.
In many cases, people just want to show their statuses to selected individuals on WhatsApp, and the launch of this feature will surely improve the privacy.
After the launch of the “Close Friends” feature, WhatsApp users will be able to edit the list of close friends from the status screen, and this process will not affect their post. By editing the “Close Friends” list, you can add and remove people.
It is important to mention that WhatsApp has not officially announced the date of launching the new feature, but according to WABetaInfo, the company will launch the “Close Friends” feature soon.
WABetaInfo reported that WhatsApp will let users choose an emoji and a name for their custom lists, and any changes will apply only to new status updates. This means if a user removes someone from the list after posting a status, that person will still see the old status but not future ones.
The platform also shared a screenshot showing the Close Friends option listed with the other three status privacy settings available on WhatsApp.
At present, the Close Friends feature is not available to anyone, including the beta testers. So, all WhatsApp users will have to wait to use this new feature.
