The International Cricket Council (ICC) Deputy Chairman Imran Khawaja has arrived in Lahore to hold crucial talks with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi regarding Pakistan’s decision to boycott its T20 World Cup match against India.
Imran Khawaja, who represents Singapore on the ICC board, is expected to discuss the implications of Pakistan’s stance and explore possible solutions to the ongoing dispute.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Aminul Islam has also reached Pakistan and will participate in the meeting.
The primary agenda of the discussions is to persuade Pakistan to reconsider its refusal to play the round-robin match against India in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Pakistan recently announced it would not face India in the tournament as a gesture of solidarity with Bangladesh. The move follows Bangladesh’s request to relocate its matches from India to Sri Lanka due to security concerns. The ICC rejected the request and subsequently replaced Bangladesh with Scotland in the event.
In response, Pakistan declined to play its scheduled match against India, a decision that could result in significant financial losses for the ICC, given the high commercial value of India-Pakistan encounters. The Pakistan-India match is currently scheduled to take place in February in Colombo.
Earlier, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Aminul Islam also reached Lahore to meet PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. BCB President Aminul Islam will return to Dhaka this evening after attending meetings and the ICC meeting in Lahore.
Pakistan had refused to play a match against India in the T20 World Cup, and another emergency meeting of the ICC will be held today.
