PDMA issues rain alert in Punjab

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority Punjab (PDMA) has issued a weather alert for the plain areas of Punjab forecasting rainfall across most districts on February 17.

According to PDMA Punjab rain is expected in Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Bhakkar, Layyah and surrounding areas.

In response alerts have been issued to local governments the health department, Rescue services, police and the transport department to remain on high preparedness.

Director General PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia advised citizens to avoid touching electric poles and wires during rainfall and warned against residing in old or dilapidated buildings. He also said the public to refrain from unnecessary travel amid adverse weather conditions.

Tourists visiting Murree have been advised to take precautionary measures and strictly follow official instructions to ensure safety during the expected weather spell.

According to meteorological forecasts, there is a strong chance of thunderstorms and rain in Colombo on Sunday.

Reports say the chance of rain in the afternoon and evening could be between 55 and 60 per cent.

Temperatures are expected to range from 22 to 31 degrees Celsius. Strong winds and scattered showers with lightning are also possible.

The match will be played at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo from 1:30 PM to 6:30 PM local time.

These hours also have the highest chance of rain. Colombo weather tomorrow could also affect the completion of the game.
