Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has announced a new rule for vehicles travelling on the motorway.

According to the new rule, there will be a tyre inspection on all of the motorways from now on. Those vehicles with expired tyres will not be allowed to travel on the motorway.

The measure comes after a tragic accident on Motorway M-9 and aims to improve road safety.

The minister has asked the Inspector General (IG) Motorways to carry out an immediate and transparent investigation into the incident.

Aleem Khan’s tweet

Describing the accident as “extremely painful,” Abdul Aleem Khan wrote on X: “The tragic accident that took place on Motorway M-9 is extremely painful. My condolences to the families of the victims.”

He added in his tweet, “I have directed the Inspector General (IG) Motorways to carry out an immediate investigation into the accident. Motorway Police has been ordered to ensure strict inspection of the quality of tyres, and no vehicle with expired tyres will be allowed on the motorway. No compromise will be made on human lives.”

He said that the loss of lives is unacceptable and stressed that negligence in safety standards would not be tolerated.

The minister instructed the Motorway Police to carry out thorough checks of all vehicle tyres to ensure no substandard or expired tyres are allowed on the motorway.

M-9 accident

An accident took place on the M-9 motorway, on Friday, near Kathore in Karachi involved an oil tanker, a bus, and several other vehicles. At least 13 people have died, including women and children, while many others were injured.

According to preliminary information, the oil tanker fell on the passenger bus, crushing several passengers underneath.

Some people also fell from a bridge during the incident, contributing to the rising death toll.
