President of the Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance Malik Shahzad Awan has strongly reacted to the recent increase in petroleum product prices and announced a 3 percent increase in freight charges across the country.
Talking to the media Malik Shahzad Awan said that the federal government’s decision to raise petroleum prices is highly condemnable as its impact is felt by every Pakistani.
He said that higher fuel prices directly increase operating costs in the transport sector making an increase in fares unavoidable.
He said that due to the policies of the federal and Punjab governments transporters are under severe pressure.
He said that the government is pushing transporters against the wall while no serious measures are being taken to resolve their issues.
Govt revises petrol, diesel prices once again
It is pertinent to mention that the government of Pakistan has once again increased the prices of both petrol and diesel.
The petrol price has increased by seven rupees and 32 paisas, and the diesel price has been elevated by five rupees.
The current rates of the petroleum entities are as follows: High Speed Diesel (HSD)-Rs268.38, and Motor Spirit (MS), also known as petrol, is standing at the rate of Rs253.17.
With effect from February 16, 2026, the new rates will be: HSD-Rs275.70, and petrol will be elevated to Rs258.17.
New prices set
Under the proposal, petrol was set at Rs257.56 per litre. High-speed diesel was fixed at Rs273.78 per litre.
Kerosene oil was priced at Rs179.80 per litre, while light diesel oil was set at Rs160.96 per litre.
Officials said the revised diesel rate was to take effect from 16 February.
Govt approved revised fuel prices
The government approved revised fuel prices after a review of market conditions, officials said.
The Petroleum Division confirmed that the new rates were formally announced following approval by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The revised prices were set for consumers across the country and were to remain in place until 28 February.
