Medical facilities for retired employees of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) have been completely suspended with effect from today.
The suspension of medical services has caused serious concern among retired employees.
According to sources, after privatization, the medical facilities for retired employees were transferred to the State Life Insurance Company. However, biometric verification for a large number of retired employees has not yet been completed.
Before biometric verification is completed, the insurance company will also not provide medical services. A heavy rush of retired employees has been observed today at the PIA Medical Center in Karachi.
Sources say that after February 15, the PIA administration has discontinued medical facilities for retired employees.
PIA retired employees health benefits
In December 2025, a consortium led by Arif Habib Group acquired a 75 percent stake in Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). The group is set to formally assume control of the airline at the end of April.
Following the privatisation, office-bearers of the PIA Retired Employees Alliance (PIAREA) stated that the government has assured retired employees that their pensions, medical facilities, and concessional travel tickets will continue after privatisation.
State Life Insurance
PIA management has also assured retirees that their medical coverage includes comprehensive laboratory services within the insurance company’s authorised network. The State Life Insurance Corporation (SLIC) has issued fresh instructions to all hospitals and laboratories on its panel in this regard. However due to the delay in biometric of retired employees they will not be able to enjoy the medical facilities.
Earlier, the new majority owner of PIA, Arif Habib, expressed his commitment to turning the airline into a profitable enterprise while safeguarding employees’ interests. He stated that employees’ future with the airline would be determined based on their performance.
