Gold rate in Pakistan falls for second consecutive day

Today gold prices in Pakistan

Gold prices in Pakistan fell on Tuesday, tracking a decline in international markets and weaker demand. The price of 24 karat gold dropped by Rs9,000 per tola to Rs514,762, according to the All Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association.

The rate for 24 karat gold per 10 gram also moved down by Rs7,716 to Rs441,325. Meanwhile, 22 karat gold was quoted at Rs404,562 per 10 gram, showing a similar downward trend.

Silver prices also slipped in the local market. 24 karat silver was sold at Rs8,014 per tola after a fall of Rs150. The price per 10 gram declined by Rs129 to Rs6,870.

Global market pressures gold

In the international market, gold prices moved lower as tensions eased and the US dollar strengthened. Spot gold traded near $4,918 per ounce, down about 1.43 percent from the previous session.

Gold fell more than 2 percent during the day as trading activity remained thin due to holidays in major Asian markets. Mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan and South Korea were closed for Lunar New Year, while US markets were shut a day earlier for Presidents Day.

A stronger dollar also weighed on bullion. The US dollar index rose 0.3 percent, making gold more expensive for buyers using other currencies.

Investors are now watching the minutes of the US Federal Reserve January meeting, due on Wednesday. The market expects interest rate cuts to begin around June. Gold usually performs better when interest rates are low because it does not offer any yield.
