The T20 World Cup 2026 has entered a decisive phase as the line-up for the Super 8 stage begins to take clear shape ahead of its start later this week. Teams have intensified their efforts to secure a place in the Super 8 stage, which will feature the top two sides from each of the four groups.
Out of the 20 participating teams, eight nations will advance to the Super 8 stage based on their group-stage performances. The competition for the remaining slots in the Super 8 stage has kept fans on edge.
Two-time champions West Indies became the first team to book their berth in the Super 8 stage after defeating Nepal by nine wickets to seal a top-two finish in Group C. Soon after, defending champions India secured their place in the Super 8 stage with a commanding 61-run victory over arch-rivals Pakistan in Group A.

Last year’s runners-up South Africa also confirmed qualification for the Super 8 stage from Group D, advancing alongside New Zealand. Meanwhile, two-time winners England clinched their ticket to the Super 8 stage after defeating Italy by 24 runs in their final group match.
Co-hosts Sri Lanka led the charge from Group B into the Super 8 stage with a crucial win over former champions Australia. Zimbabwe followed them into the Super 8 stage after a washout against Ireland ended Australia’s campaign.
One spot in the Super 8 stage still remains open as former champions Pakistan and USA continue to battle for qualification. The final group matches will determine the last entrant into the Super 8 stage.
The tournament will begin the Super 8 stage on February 21 and conclude it on March 1. Ahead of the competition, the International Cricket Council seeded eight teams for the Super 8 stage based on T20I rankings.
The ICC will place seeded teams in pre-assigned positions in the Super 8 stage, regardless of their group-stage standings. If an unseeded team qualifies, it will take the allocated slot of the eliminated seeded side in the Super 8 stage.
