The Sindh government has introduced a new pricing structure for fancy number plates, with the highest category set at up to Rs2 million per plate.
The Excise and Taxation Department issued a notification outlining the revised rates for the premium vehicle registration numbers.
The new system allows vehicle owners to obtain specific or “fancy” numbers by paying fixed fees.
Officials say the step makes the system official, as many people in the province have long shown interest in getting special number plates.
New rates
Under the new structure, the most popular and demanding numbers, including 786 and 110, will cost Rs2 million each.
Three-digit numbers ranging from 111 to 999 have been priced at Rs1 million per plate.
Number plates between 100 and 900, along with single-digit styled series from 001 to 009, will be available for Rs500,000.
All other choice numbers can be obtained for a base fee of Rs300,000.
Aim to regulate demand
According to officials, the revised pricing is intended to bring transparency to the allocation of special registration numbers.
Fancy numbers have traditionally attracted high interest, often leading to informal bidding and limited availability.
By setting fixed rates, the government aims to regulate demand and increase provincial revenue.
The department has not announced when the new rates will come into effect, but the notification indicates that applications will be processed under the updated fee structure.
Premium number plates remain popular among vehicle owners, particularly in major cities, where distinctive registration numbers are often seen as a status symbol.
