Imran Khan brought to PIMS for follow-up eye treatment

Former Prime Minister and Central Jail Adiala prisoner Imran Ahmed Khan Niazi was transferred to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for medical examination and eye treatment on February 24, 2026.

According to PIMS Hospital Administration, Imran Khan was brought for a follow-up check-up and a second dose of anti-VGF injection in the eye.

Before the procedure, a board of expert doctors conducted a detailed medical examination of him, which included heart tests (ECG and Echo), the results of which came back normal.

The hospital administration said that Imran Khan was declared medically stable, and the day care procedure was completed under all standard precautions.

According to PIMS officials, Imran Khan’s condition remained stable before, during and after the procedure, and he was transferred back with necessary instructions.

Former prime minister Imran Ahmed Khan Niazi was brought from Central Jail Adyala to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for a scheduled follow-up eye treatment, according to an official medical update.

The 74-year-old underwent his second dose of an anti-VEGF intravitreal injection, a procedure commonly used to treat certain retinal conditions that affect vision.

Medical board reviews Khan’s health condition

Before the procedure, Mr Khan was examined by a board of specialists. A consultant cardiologist carried out an echocardiography and an ECG. Both test results were reported as normal.

He was also evaluated by a consultant physician. Doctors found him clinically stable and fit to undergo the planned treatment.

After informed consent was obtained, the injection was administered under standard monitoring and safety protocols in the operating theatre.

The procedure was performed by a consultant ophthalmologist and a consultant vitreo-retinal surgeon affiliated with PIMS and Al Shifa Eye Hospital. The injection was given under microscopic guidance.

Hospital officials said the treatment was conducted as a daycare surgery.

According to the medical update, Mr Khan remained vitally stable before, during and after the procedure.
