Amnesty South Asia under Smriti Singh 'biased against Pakistan, acts as mouthpiece for India'

Amnesty South Asia, led by Ms Smriti Singh since 2023, has been acting as a mouthpiece for India rather than staying impartial, according to reports.

Netizens say that its reports focus heavily on Pakistan while ignoring violations by Indian security forces.

Its selective reporting disproportionately criticises Pakistan while ignoring repeated violations by Indian security forces. This includes the armed aggression and civilian harm in Manipur over the past 3 months, reports say.

Under Article 51 of the UN Charter, Pakistan has the right to defend itself. Its strikes targeted verified terrorist camps used by the TTP and other groups operating from Afghan territory.

Additionally, the operations targeted only militants. No civilians were harmed.

Also, Pakistan followed international humanitarian law and respected principles of distinction and proportionality.

The Taliban led authorities have repeatedly shown that they cannot prevent their territory from being used by terrorists.

Under the “Unwilling or Unable” principle and UNSC Resolution 1373, Pakistan’s actions are justified, according to sources.

Any suggestion otherwise ignores international law and the reality of cross border terrorism.

Pakistan calls this not just a bilateral issue but a regional security problem. Russia has identified the Tajikistan Afghanistan border as a key hotspot.

Tajikistan reported seventeen cross-border clashes in 2025 and criticised the Taliban for failing to secure their borders against TTP and ISIS-K.

The UNSC reports from February 2026 confirm that 21 international terrorist groups operate from Afghan territory.

Afghanistan’s failure to act makes Pakistan’s defensive measures lawful, necessary, and proportionate.

Amnesty South Asia, according to reports, misrepresents facts by implying civilian harm and ignoring this context.

Netizens call for Amnesty International to recognise the bias under Ms Smriti Singh and take corrective action. They say Pakistan’s counter-terrorism operations are lawful acts of self defence.

They urge that this misrepresentation is unacceptable and must be corrected immediately.
