Good news for women: Maryam Nawaz launches e-taxi scheme

E-taxi scheme in Punjab Maryam Nawaz

Maryam Nawaz, the Chief Minister of Punjab, has launched a new e-taxi scheme in the province. She said that the project is a part of a government scheme to promote electric vehicles and build a complete e-mobility service.

Maryam Nawaz announced during the inauguration ceremony that around 1100 e-taxis will be provided to citizens of Punjab at a subsidised rate. CM Punjab also confirmed that the women’s quota is 30% in the programme.  

“Punjab has become the first province to launch an e-taxi scheme, the first of its kind, not only for the environment, but it will also open up employment opportunities,” Maryam Nawaz said while addressing the ceremony.

The chief minister said while showing happiness that, “I am happy that over 30 pc of the scheme’s beneficiaries are women.”

E-mobility system in province

CM Maryam Nawaz also said that the purpose of this initiative is to promote electric vehicles and build a complete “e-mobility system” in the province.

“We have green buses as well — an example for the rest of the country,” she stated, outlining plans to expand the service to “all 148 tehsils of Punjab”.

Maryam Nawaz also said that the government will provide Rs4 billion for these 1,100 cars.

Down payment for cars

She also said that the government will also cover 15% down payment for these 1100 cars.

“You can take this car home for Rs690,000 today,” She remarked.

Maryam Nawaz also noted that the government will pay 60% down payment for women.

“Within the next 48 hours, you will see these e-taxis on the roads of Lahore and other districts in Punjab,” Maryam Nawaz concluded.
