Afghanistan’s caretaker Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, has held a telephone conversation with Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs HE Dr Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi as tensions continue along the Pakistan-Afghan border.

The contact comes after Pakistan said it carried out a strong military response under what it described as “Operation Ghazb-Lil-Haqq”.

Pakistani officials have claimed significant losses were inflicted on militant positions. Afghan authorities have not publicly confirmed those claims in detail.

In recent days, cross-border exchanges and security alerts have raised concerns of further escalation between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Qatar confirms discussion

An official statement from the Qatar Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the call.

According to the post shared by the Ministry on X, both sides discussed ways to reduce tensions on the Pakistan-Afghan border and explored options for maintaining peace and stability in the region.

During the conversation, Mr Muttaqi briefed Qatari officials on the current situation and Kabul’s position.

Qatar’s Minister of State reaffirmed Doha’s position that disputes should be resolved through dialogue and diplomatic engagement.

He said Qatar supports peaceful negotiations at both regional and international levels and is ready to assist efforts aimed at reducing violence and restoring stability.

Regional security concerns

Border tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have increased in recent weeks.

Pakistani authorities say security has been tightened in border areas, including parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, amid concerns over cross-border attacks.

There have been reports of enhanced surveillance and defensive measures along the frontier, though officials have provided limited operational details.

Some defence analysts say the diplomatic contact suggests Kabul is seeking support from regional partners as pressure mounts along the border.

Qatar has previously played a mediating role in Afghan-related negotiations and maintains working ties with the Taliban-led administration.

Neither Islamabad nor Kabul has indicated whether further military action is expected.

For now, attention appears to be shifting toward diplomatic channels, even as security forces on both sides remain on alert.
