The Afghan Taliban regime, acting under the direction of its Indian and Israeli patrons, is allowing Afghan territory to be used as a forward operational base against Iran, and potentially Pakistan as well, writes Agha Iqrar Haroon for Dispatch News Desk (DND).
According to the article, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s statement after the US–Israel joint attack on Iran was not merely rhetorical. It echoed a long-standing strategy of internal destabilisation through ethnic fragmentation, a model previously applied elsewhere with devastating consequences.
It noted that an Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) officer, Steve Cohen, made an extraordinary disclosure. He stated that the United States and Israel were acting against Iran not only on behalf of the West but also in coordination with India.
Strategic analysts have described Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Israel immediately preceding the US–Israel strikes on Iran, coupled with Afghanistan’s alleged intelligence facilitation, as “India’s and Afghanistan’s historic betrayal of Iran in the twenty-first century.”
Agha Iqrar Haroon wrote that in June 2025, during an earlier Israeli attack on Iran, India was accused of playing a similar role by providing human intelligence and material support through Afghanistan. At that time, Indian intelligence networks operating inside Iran under the cover of business and employment were reportedly activated to assist Israeli objectives.
“Today, Iran faces a coordinated US–Israel assault while Israel, through its intelligence and proxy footprint, is effectively positioned along Iran’s eastern flank — in Afghanistan”, he said.
“Pakistan, which shares borders with Iran, Afghanistan, and India, finds itself in an exceptionally precarious position. It is a weather-beaten ally of the United States and increasingly encircled by hostile actors. In recent months, Pakistan has already experienced war-like situations on both its eastern and western borders — with India and Afghanistan, respectively,” he added.
