Karachi heavy traffic ban extended

The Karachi Traffic Police have launched special traffic control strategy throughout the city to cope with the expected increased stream of traffic during the Eid shopping season officials stated on Thursday.

Traffic authorities have increased officers presence at major centres of commerce, shopping centres and busy markets to control the flow of traffic during the peak evening hours.

According to Traffic DIG Syed Pir Muhammad Shah personnel will be on duty from evening till late night in order to prevent congestion and smooth movement on the important roads.

As part of the arrangements restrictions have been imposed on the movement of rickshaws, taxis and commercial vehicles on a number of major routes and market areas. Some roads leading to popular shopping districts have been declared as restricted zones to minimise the pressure on the roads.

Traffic Police have also introduced diversion plans for heavy and commercial vehicles redirecting them to other areas for avoiding crowded places of commercial activity. Special measures will be taken near busy markets including Hyderi and Saddar where the congestion is expected to increase closer to the Eid.

Motorists have been advised to use recommended alternative routes as issued by the traffic authorities while illegal parking and unauthorised Rickshaw and Taxi stands near shopping centres will not be allowed.

Officials said the plan is to ensure the discipline of traffic, reduce bottlenecks and facilitate shoppers during the festive period. Citizens have been appealed to cooperate with the traffic personnel and strictly observe the traffic guidelines for the convenience of without inconvenience.
