The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is set to award the construction contract for the extension of Margalla Avenue from N-5 to M-1 within the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).
The tendering process for this mega infrastructure project is nearing completion. The project aims to improve connectivity and traffic flow in the northern parts of Islamabad.
As part of the development plan, one loop and two underpasses will also be constructed to facilitate smoother movement of traffic and reduce congestion.
Once completed, the extension is expected to significantly enhance access between the national highway network and Islamabad, benefiting commuters and boosting regional connectivity.
This was revealed in a high-level meeting chaired by Muhammad Ali Randhawa, Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner of Islamabad.
During the meeting, the chairman directed officials to ensure both high-quality standards and speedy completion of all ongoing and upcoming projects.
Attaturk Avenue widening
The meeting held detailed discussions on the widening of Atatürk Avenue. Chairman CDA directed that decorative lighting and digital boards should be installed on a permanent basis along the avenue.
He also instructed that horticulture and landscaping work be carried out to enhance the road’s aesthetics. In addition, he directed the construction of a dedicated cycle track on Atatürk Avenue to promote environmentally friendly commuting.
Kashmir Chowk Underpass
Officials also briefed the meeting about the proposed Kashmir Chowk Underpass project in Islamabad. The meeting was informed that the tendering process for the underpass will be completed soon, while the process of appointing consultants is currently underway.
During the meeting, the chairman also directed that the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) be made mandatory for all development projects to ensure environmentally responsible development in the federal capital.
Model Graveyard Project
The meeting was informed that the design of the Pandorian Model Graveyard project has been finalised. The project will include a boundary wall, spacious parking area, administrative office, ablution area, funeral hall, mosque, and electric hearses.
Officials also informed the meeting that access roads from Lehtrar Road to the graveyard will be expanded. The chairman directed that the main internal road be widened and access to the graveyard be ensured from Park Road as well. He also instructed authorities to develop additional parking facilities at the site.
