Pakistan will continue exposing rights abuses in Indian-occupied Kashmir: FO

Human rights abuse in Kashmir

Pakistan will continue to inform the international community about human rights violations in Indian-administered Kashmir, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said on Sunday.

Speaking at a seminar in Islamabad held to mark International Women’s Day, Andrabi said women often become silent victims during oppression and usually suffer more than men in situations involving human rights abuses.

He said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Pakistan) has made efforts to ensure that women’s rights remain highlighted in reports issued by the United Nations.

Andrabi added that UN human rights observers have repeatedly released reports about the situation in Indian-administered Kashmir.

He also said several incidents, including the reported brutality in Kunan Poshpora, have never been properly investigated.

Earlier, the violent protests erupted in different parts of Srinagar, including Batmaloo, HMT and Nowgam, as protesters threw stones at the vehicles of Indian forces. At the same time, Indian forces use tear gas and gunfire to disperse the protestors. The cowardly Indian forces forced citizens to close their shops.

The residence also confirmed that the situation remained stressful the entire day. However, the locals’ reports verified that there is a visible anger in the youth of Kashmir against Indian forces. The locals expressed fear that if Indian forces don’t stop their brutality, the protests could be escalated.
