WhatsApp is preparing to upgrade its services by introducing a premium subscription called WhatsApp Plus, according to reports from the tech tracking website WABetaInfo.

The move suggests that the company may soon offer optional paid features while keeping its core messaging service free for all users.

What is WhatsApp Plus?

According to the report, WhatsApp Plus will be a paid subscription that provides extra customisation and additional features for users who want more control over how the app looks and works.

The basic functions of WhatsApp include messaging, voice calls and video calls; these are expected to remain free.

The premium tier would simply add optional tools and features on top of the existing service.

Customisation features

One of the main additions under the new subscription would be expanded customisation.

Subscribers may be able to change the WhatsApp app icon and apply new themes.

Reports suggest the service could include 14 new app icons along with additional colour options.

Exclusive ringtones may also be available for users who sign up for the paid tier.

More chat control

Another reported feature is an increase in the number of pinned chats.

At present, WhatsApp users can pin up to three chats at the top of their conversation list.

With WhatsApp Plus, subscribers could pin up to 20 chats, making it easier to keep important conversations within reach.

More features expected later

The report says more tools could be added to the subscription over time.

These may include subscriber-only sticker packs and additional interactive features designed to make conversations more engaging.

However, the company has not yet confirmed the full list of features.

Launch timeline still unclear

There is currently no official launch date for WhatsApp Plus.

Pricing details have also not been announced. More information is expected once WhatsApp confirms the feature publicly.

For now, the reported subscription appears to still be under development.
