The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is considering introducing digital ticketing for select enclosures for the next edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL), which will be held from March 26 to May 3.
According to sources, the option of digital ticketing is being considered for VIP and Premium enclosures for matches played at Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi.
If the plan is put into place, the PSL 11 ticket holders will be able to access stadiums by simply showing the tickets on their mobile devices instead of requiring them to have printed copies.
The initiative is aimed at making the procedure for entry into stadiums easy and reducing long queues at the gates of stadiums, especially when there is a high-profile match, which is usually attended by a large crowd.
Digital access is also expected to make crowd management better and offer a more convenient experience to fans attending games.
In another move the PCB has also decided to make ticket prices highly affordable for this year’s tournament.
For league stage of PSL 11, the price of tickets is expected to be between Rs300 to Rs3,000, which allows a larger audience to attend the match.
The historic 11th edition of the league will have eight teams, comprising two new entrants – Pindiz and Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen. A total of 44 matches will be played in a 39-day tournament.
The competition will start on March 26 when defending champions Lahore Qalandars will take on Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen at Lahore.
According to the schedule of the tournament, each of the teams will play 10 matches during the league stage. The best four teams in the standings will go on to the playoffs.
The knockout stage will have Qualifier 1, Eliminator and Qualifier 2, leading to the final which will be held on May 3 at Gaddafi stadium. May 4 has been selected as the reserve day.
Matches will be played in six venues in Pakistan, Faisalabad and Peshawar to host PSL games for the first time along with Karachi, Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi.
