Mayor Karachi, Murtaza Wahab, has revealed a series of major development initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure and public facilities across the city.
Speaking at a press conference at the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) office, he said the city is set to see Rs 68 billion in development spending this year, covering 1,058 projects, including roads, markets and old buildings.
Areas where uplift projects to be initiated
The Mayor highlighted that Old City areas will undergo development for Rs 750 million, with projects planned for Le Market, Khajur Market, Mithadar and Kharadar in Karachi city. An additional Rs 1 billion is being allocated to upgrade various markets citywide.
He also confirmed that the inner streets of towns will be improved to reduce citizen inconveniences. Work was planned around Gul Plaza, but the Gul Plaza fire incident delayed the project.
In other initiatives, work has begun on the largest bird aviary at Kidney Hill Park, while a new cemetery on Memon Goth Road is set to be completed in two months for Rs 430 million.
Traffic improvements are also underway, with a flyover at the Azeem Pura intersection to remove the signal and ease congestion. These projects reflect the KMC’s push to modernise Karachi’s infrastructure and provide citizens with improved services.
Sindh govt approves Rs 430mn graveyard on Memon Goth road
In a move to ease public access, the Sindh government has announced the construction of a new graveyard on Memon Goth Road, scheduled to be completed within two months. The project will cost Rs 430 million, authorities confirmed.
The initiative aims to provide convenient burial facilities for citizens in the rapidly growing city. Construction work is expected to begin immediately, with modern planning and facilities to accommodate future needs.
