The government is set to launch a state-of-the-art slaughterhouse and wholesale meat market in Islamabad, investing Rs 3 billion to provide residents with safe, hygienic meat.

The sources revealed that the government planned to establish a modern slaughterhouse and wholesale meat market in the federal capital, which will modernise the livestock sector with advanced meat processing facilities

This move is expected to not only improve meat quality but also make the sector more efficient and competitive.

The project also intends to promote the production of processed and high-value meat products, making the sector more efficient and competitive.

The slaughterhouse will be equipped with advanced facilities, including a modern abattoir and chilling rooms, aimed at improving meat supply and processing standards in the region.

The project’s primary objective is to meet the meat requirements of residents of the twin cities, Rawalpindi and Islamabad, while also supporting the export of meat to international markets.

The project seeks to consolidate slaughtering activities within a single, veterinary-supervised facility to uphold stringent health and safety standards. It also plans to establish an integrated wholesale meat market, along with dedicated wastewater treatment and solid waste management systems, and units for processing animal by-products.

Scheduled to run over three years, from July 2026 to June 2029, the project will be implemented in collaboration with the Islamabad Capital Territory Administration, Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Livestock and Dairy Development Board under the Ministry of National Food Security and Research. The facility will be located in Sector 11-4/1, Islamabad.
