Pakistan extends airspace ban on Indian flights

Pakistan airspace ban on Indian flights

Pakistan has officially announced that its airspace will remain closed to all Indian-registered aircraft and those operated, owned, or leased by Indian airlines and operators until the early hours of April 24, 2026.

According to an official notification, the restriction applies to commercial, private, and military flights linked to India. The decision comes amid ongoing tensions between the two neighbouring countries, impacting regional aviation routes and airline operations.

Pakistan Airports Authority wrote on X, “Pakistan airspace will remain closed to Indian-registered aircraft and those operated, owned, or leased by Indian airlines/operators, including military flights, until early hours of 24 April 2026.”

Aviation authorities stated that the extension is part of Pakistan’s continued security and policy measures. Airlines that typically rely on Pakistani airspace for shorter routes will now have to use alternative, longer paths, likely increasing fuel costs and travel time.

The move is expected to affect several international flights operating between India and Europe, North America, and the Middle East.

Officials have not indicated whether the restriction will be extended further, leaving airlines and passengers closely watching for future updates.

Earlier, Pakistan extended the closure of its airspace to Indian aircraft for another month.

The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) confirmed it by sending a new notice to airmen (NOTAM).

Under the fresh order, the ban will remain in place until March 23, 2026, covering both civilian and military planes registered in India.

The restriction means that no Indian-registered aircraft, including commercial airliners and military flights, is permitted to enter or fly over Pakistani airspace during this period.
