ISLAMABAD: A Pakistani delegation led by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has reached Doha to hold talks with the Afghan Taliban regarding measures for preventing cross-border terrorism.
According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, a high-level delegation headed by the defence minister will meet Afghan Taliban representatives in Doha .
According to sources, the high-level Pakistani delegation has arrived in Doha and is reportedly carried evidence of terrorist attacks carried out by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) from Afghan territory, along with proof related to suspects wanted by Pakistan.
The talks will focus on the immediate cessation of cross-border terrorist activities originating from Afghanistan, according to the Foreign Office.
The spokesperson said that Pakistan does not seek escalation or tension, emphasizing that it desires a peaceful resolution for regional stability and security. Pakistan urged the Afghan Taliban to honor their international commitments and address Pakistan’s security concerns.
The Foreign Office further stated that Pakistan has demanded verifiable action by the Taliban regime against terrorist groups operating from Afghan soil. Pakistan also appreciated Qatar’s mediation efforts, calling the negotiations an important step towards peace and stability in the region.
It is worth noting that in the previous round of talks in Qatar, Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban regime had agreed to maintain a ceasefire along the border until the Doha negotiations resumed.
