Pro Hockey League: Pakistan suffer 14th straight defeat, England beat Green Shirts 2–1

14th consecutive defeat for Pakistan in FIH Hockey Pro League

Pakistan’s hockey team has suffered its 14th consecutive defeat in the FIH Pro Hockey League. After India, England also defeated Pakistan in the Pro Hockey League match played in London. The English team won 2–1 against the Green Shirts. Rana Waheed Ashraf scored the only goal for Pakistan.

Pakistan’s next match will be against arch-rivals India on June 26. The team has not been able to earn a single point so far.

Earlier, analyst Shahid Hashmi commented on Pakistan’s poor performance, saying that although national players have improved the country’s ranking by six to seven places in recent years, the question is what facilities have been provided to them.

He said the players trained on a damaged turf where two players, Hanan Shahid and Sufyan, got injured. He also added that during their stay, four players were accommodated in a room with only fans and no air conditioning.

Shahid Hashmi further said that a 75–76-year-old coach, who has never played hockey on AstroTurf in his life, was appointed. He emphasised that proper facilities must be provided for international events, as the Pro League cannot be won by simply paying participation fees.

In an earlier match, India defeated Pakistan 4–3 in a thrilling encounter in the Pro Hockey League.

Pakistan showed excellent play at the start of the match and took a one-goal lead in the first quarter, but the Indian team staged a comeback to win the match.

This was the Pakistan hockey team’s 13th consecutive defeat in the tournament, and following this loss, the national team has also been eliminated from the next edition of the Pro League.

According to statistics, Pakistan last defeated India in 2016. In the last 10 years, India has won 16 of the 18 matches played between the two teams, while 2 matches ended in draws.
