Iran said it had achieved a major success after the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed its defence system shot down a US F-18 fighter jet.
The ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States (US) have taken a dangerous turn, with the IRGC claiming that its defence system successfully shot down a US F-18 fighter jet.
According to Iranian officials, the action was taken to defend the country’s borders and prevent violations of its airspace.
However, further details of the incident and the location of the plane’s crash are currently being kept quiet.
On the other hand, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) has completely rejected Iran’s claim.
US officials say that Iran’s claim of shooting down an F-18 is completely false and baseless, and none of its aircraft is currently missing or targeted.
Pentagon sources say that US air operations in the region are continuing as usual and that Iran’s statement is being described as “propaganda.”
Diplomatic and military experts are calling the situation extremely worrying, as such contradictory reports could be a precursor to a major misunderstanding or a direct confrontation.
Tehran and Washington are currently engaged in a fierce war of words, and the defence systems of both countries are on high alert.
Observers believe that if Iran fails to provide any concrete evidence or debris to support its claim, it could affect its international reputation, while the US’s denial shows that it does not want to prolong the matter further.
Mission ‘Epic Fury’ to achieve its goal
The United States (US) has said that Operation Epic Fury is very close to achieving its main objectives and has warned Iran to avoid any misunderstandings.
A White House spokesperson on Wednesday stated during a press briefing that President Donald Trump’s priority is always peace, adding that there is no need for further deaths and destruction.
However, the spokesperson warned that if Iran does not accept the reality, the United States will launch its largest attack yet.
The spokesperson also claimed that the Iranian government is looking for a way out of the war.
