Ishaq Dar confirms indirect US, Iran communication via Pakistan

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has dismissed media speculation surrounding Middle East peace efforts, clarifying that no direct talks are taking place between the United States and Iran.

In a statement shared on the social media platform X, Dar said that indirect communication between Washington and Tehran is ongoing via messages exchanged through Pakistan.

He stressed that reports suggesting formal negotiations are premature, adding that unnecessary speculation is being created in the media regarding the peace process.

He further noted that, in this context, the United States has shared 15 points which Iran is currently considering. Brotherly countries such as Turkey and Egypt, along with others, are also supporting this initiative.

He emphasised that Pakistan is fully committed to promoting peace and is making every effort to ensure stability in the region and globally. He added that negotiations and diplomacy are the only viable way forward.

On the other hand, proposals for a potential ceasefire between the United States and Iran have surfaced, according to an American news agency.

The reported proposals include halting Iran’s nuclear and missile programs, ensuring the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and ending Iranian support for armed groups.

They also call for international monitoring of Iran’s activities by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), along with provisions for civilian nuclear cooperation between Washington and Tehran and a possible easing of sanctions on Iran.

Meanwhile, China has expressed support for Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to promote peace in the Middle East. Egypt has also stated that coordinated efforts are ongoing among Egypt, Pakistan, Turkey, and other regional and international partners to advance stability and dialogue in the region.
