US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, responding to a question about the Strait of Hormuz, stated that after the conclusion of US military operations, the waterway will be reopened in any case, either with Iran’s cooperation or through a global military coalition that includes the United States.
In an interview with Al Jazeera, Rubio said that messages and discussions are being exchanged between the United States and Iran through various intermediaries. He stated that US President Trump has always preferred to achieve results through diplomacy and that this issue could have been resolved earlier.
Rubio warned that if Iran attempts to keep the Strait of Hormuz closed after the military operation, it will face serious consequences.
He also alleged that the Iranian government is spending its resources on supporting Hezbollah, Hamas, and Shiite militias in Iraq, while unnecessarily threatening its neighbouring countries.
The US Secretary of State stated that Iran will never be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons and must stop supporting terrorism and developing weapons that threaten the region.
He added that Iran’s short-range missiles are primarily intended to target countries such as Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain. According to Rubio, Iran seeks to blackmail the international community by acquiring nuclear weapons, but the United States will not allow this to happen. He concluded by saying that US objectives are clear and will be achieved within weeks, not months.
