A new step has been introduced by the Punjab government regarding education. The step is aimed at improving educational inclusion for Christian and minorities in Punjab schools.
Under the new initiative, non-Muslim students in Punjab will not be required to take general ethics or Islamic Studies but will be able to study their own religious education.
Christian religious textbooks have been officially approved by the Punjab Education, Curriculum, Training and Assessment Authority (PECTAA) for use in schools.
Educating Youth Publication developed these books which are intended for students from grades 1 through 8. They will also be for grades 11 and 12.
The books are not just for Christians. The new books are for the following subjects Sikhism, Hinduism, Buddhism and Kalasha Taleem.
These ones have been approved for grades 1 to 3. Books for Zoroastrianism have also been approved for grades 1 to 5.
This will be a positive shift from the previous system. This new system will specifically introduce religious education for minority communities.
These textbooks will be implemented by both private and public schools across Punjab for Christian and other minority students, according to the notification issued by PECTAA.
The decision has been described by the officials as a historic step towards strengthening the rights of minority communities.
This initiative by the Punjab government is also a part of a broader effort to promote inclusive education. The initiative will ensure that students from different religious backgrounds have access to learning that is aligned with their beliefs.
This is just one of the positive decisions taken by Punjab. Earlier Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced that AI learning will be made mandatory in schools across the province.
This marked a significant shift in education and governance policy. This decision was announced during an official workshop in Lahore focused on the use of digital tools in public administration.
