Advisor to the Prime Minister, Rana Sanaullah, has said that the ongoing petrol crisis is not of the government’s making, assuring that steps are being taken to provide relief to the public.
While speaking to the media, he highlighted that the world is currently facing a severe energy crisis, with petroleum prices steadily rising across global markets.
He further explained that Pakistan is also feeling the impact of these international price hikes. However, he emphasised that the government is actively working to reduce the burden on citizens through targeted subsidies, noting that fuel shortages are being witnessed in several countries worldwide.
The Prime Minister’s advisor further said that the government is implementing austerity measures and that the Prime Minister took timely steps to ensure the supply of petroleum. He mentioned that in many countries, people have had to stand in long queues.
Rana Sanaullah urged the public not to turn against one another and to understand the situation. He said the government is also making efforts to help bring an end to the war and warned against protests that could weaken the country.
He emphasised the need for everyone to play a positive role during this time, adding that this crisis was not created by them and that the nation will overcome it with dignity.
He concluded by saying that relief is being provided through subsidies, but some individuals are trying to exploit the situation for political gain by creating unrest instead of acknowledging the government’s efforts. He also noted that global prices have risen due to the Iran war and accused certain elements of misleading the public in the current situation.
