The first photos taken from inside the Artemis II Orion spacecraft have been released by NASA. The photos show Earth in stunning detail and the four astronauts make their journey towards the moon.
The planet’s beauty was highlighted by these images. The historic nature of the mission is also highlighted by these images.
Mission Commander Reid Wiseman on Friday shared a photograph of Earth through the Orion Capsule’s window.
The planet was seen veiled in sweeping cloud formations in the image. The planet was rising majestically beyond the spacecraft.
There are also images capturing the full globe with a green aurora glowing faintly on the horizon and the oceans visible. The view offered is rarely seen by human eyes.
On Friday’s midmorning the crew was 100,000 miles (160,000 km) away from earth making its way to the moon.
The crew is rapidly making its way to the moon with 160,000 miles (258,000 km) to go.
The crew of Artemis II includes three American astronauts and one Canadian. They will fly around the moon in Orion. The course of the spacecraft was set after the main engine of Orion was fired on Thursday night.
The first woman to travel around the moon Mission Specialist Christina Koch said that “There’s nothing that prepares you for the breathtaking aspect of seeing your home planet both lit up bright as day and also the moon glow on it at night … I’m really excited for that. And then, of course, heading home.”
Currently the mission is on its third day of the 10-day journey.
A close flyby of the moon will be performed by the crew on the sixth day. It will reach an altitude of 4000-6000 miles above the lunar surface.
The mission will travel to the far side of the moon. They will become the first humans to travel this far into deep space. Some scientific observations will also be carried out by the astronauts.
