The District Kutchery Chowk Underpass and Overhead Bridge project has entered its final phase, with preparations underway for its inauguration in May next year. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz will formally inaugurate the project.
During a recent site visit, Rawalpindi Division Commissioner Engineer Amir Khattak, accompanied by officials from the Frontier Works Organisation, reviewed progress on the Katchery Chowk Remodelling Project. Authorities noted that construction activities are moving ahead at a steady pace.
The Commissioner was informed that work on the project is progressing rapidly and is being carried out in double shifts. Overall, the project is 76 per cent complete. The Kutchery Intersection is 74 per cent complete, Iftikhar Janjua Chowk is 72 per cent complete, and Anxsi Chowk is 71 per cent complete.
Similarly, the utility ducts are 83 per cent complete, the pedestrian bridge is 50 per cent complete, the culvert is 96 per cent complete, and the retaining wall is 98 per cent complete.
The project was originally scheduled for completion within 18 months, having started on November 3, 2025. However, keeping public convenience in mind, work is being accelerated, and a revised completion deadline of May 2026 has been set.
The estimated cost of the project has increased due to rising prices of construction materials and transportation. The Commissioner urged all concerned departments to complete the work within the prescribed timeline. He also directed the Parks and Horticulture Authority to ensure that all work is completed on time and meets quality standards.
The total cost has risen from Rs 14 billion to over Rs 15 billion due to increasing prices of construction materials and petroleum products, according to media reports. The upgraded facility is expected to significantly benefit both lawyers and citizens by improving access to court services and reducing congestion in the area.
