Pakistan to introduce monthly petrol quota for private vehicles: check here

The federal government of Pakistan has decided to set a specific monthly quota of petrol for the citizens’ personal vehicles, on Monday, for the ease of the people after the prices of petroleum were changed due to the ongoing geopolitical situation.

In this context, while deciding to set a specific monthly quota of petrol for citizens’ personal vehicles, the federal government has decided to implement a digital fuel management system at petrol pumps.

Under this decision, no citizen will be allowed to take petrol more than the fixed quota.

Preparations have been completed for the provision of mobile phones at the pumps to implement the petrol quota system as per the details.

While the National IT Board and the IT Ministry have completed the testing of mobile phones and applications.

According to the details, due to the current situation in Iran, the United States (US) and Israel, and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, Pakistan is also facing an energy crisis like the rest of the world.

The government is taking several steps to deal with it in the form of the austerity measures.

Petrol subsidy app

To get the app in action, approved modern mobile handsets worth 36 thousand will be provided to petrol pumps. Oil marketing companies will provide money for the purchase of mobile phones.

The National Information Technology Board (NITB)will purchase mobile phones and distribute them to the relevant companies and fuel stations through OGRA.

Digital monitoring will be done through the app developed by the Pakistan Digital Authority.

In this regard, OGRA has been ordered to give instructions to oil companies to purchase mobile phones.

While the details of this project have also been sent to the Cabinet Division for final approval by the Ministry of IT.

NITB has verified the quality and operational performance of the mobile devices. The federal government will soon formally announce the amount of petrol quota for vehicles.

Petrol price in Pakistan today 2026

The Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik held an important press conference where they announced the increase in petrol prices in Pakistan, from Rs322 per litre to Rs458.40 paisa per litre.

But the price was later reduced by the government, announced by the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif.

As of 6 April 2026, the price of petrol in Pakistan is Rs378.41 per litre. This rate became effective on 4 April 2026, following the significant reduction.
