WhatsApp to soon allow noise cancellation for Android users

WhatsApp is currently announcing a major update for Android that will allow users to activate noise cancellation during voice and video calls.

This new feature aims to remove unnecessary background noise, thereby improving the clarity of voice conversations.

The WhatsApp beta for Android (version 2.26.11.8) introduces a novel noise suppression capability for calls.

This feature ensures that conversations remain clear by filtering out sounds such as traffic, wind, or noise from busy environments in real-time.

By removing unwanted noise without compromising the speaker’s voice, the update improves audio quality and creates a more natural conversational experience.

Although initially available to a limited group of beta users, the feature is now being rolled out to a broader audience.

How WhatsApp noise cancellation works

There will be a toggle for the ‘Noise cancellation’ option that can be activated or deactivated from the calling menu within the messaging app.

This feature is expected to significantly improve call clarity, potentially aligning the app’s voice and video calling quality with, or even exceeding, that of traditional cellular calls.

As a result, it could render WhatsApp a much more reliable choice for everyday communication.

Currently, access seems to be restricted to beta testers, a group anyone can join through the Google Play Store.

To enroll, simply navigate to the WhatsApp listing, scroll down to the ‘Join the beta’ section, and select ‘Join’.

While you gain early access through the beta program, it is important to note that this may come with various bugs and issues.

Fortunately, there is an option to exit the program by following a similar process to that of joining.
