Pakistan has yet again showcased its role as an important player on the global front. The peace-loving Pakistan announced a historic ceasefire between the US and Iran.

PM Shehbaz announces ceasefire

PM Shehbaz Sharif posted on his social media platform X about the recent peace deal between the US and Iran.

He said, “With the greatest humility, I am pleased to announce that the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, along with their allies, have agreed to an immediate ceasefire everywhere, including Lebanon and elsewhere, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY.”

Further talking about the Islamabad talks, he added, “We earnestly hope that the ‘Islamabad Talks’ succeed in achieving sustainable peace and wish to share more good news in the coming days!”

PM Shehbaz said that both parties have displayed remarkable wisdom and understanding and have remained constructively engaged in furthering the cause of peace and stability.

US President Donald Trump

The US President, Donald Trump, has announced a ceasefire for two weeks. There will be no strikes in Iran for 14 days, said the US President.

In his post on Truth Social, Trump said that based on the conversation held with the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks.

Iran accepts ceasefire

The Islamic Republic of Iran has also reportedly accepted the offer of a two-week ceasefire.

A post on X said that Iran accepted the ceasefire deal after China persuaded it.

The post said, “A last-minute push by China helped persuade Iran to accept Pakistan’s two-week ceasefire proposal, with the truce ultimately approved by Mojtaba Khamenei, according to NYT, citing three Iranian officials.”

World reacts

Reacting to the ceasefire, the world praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and CDF Field Marshal Asim Munir’s role, saving the lives of innocent humans and global economies.

Saudi Arabia praises Pakistan’s efforts for US-Iran ceasefire

According to the official statement, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s welcome to the announcement by His Excellency the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, and the announcement by the State of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, regarding the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran having reached an agreement to cease fire between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran, noting in this context the fruitful efforts made by his country, and referring to General Asim Munir, Commander of the Defense Forces and Chief of Staff of the Pakistani Army, in reaching this agreement.”

UN chief ‘welcomes’ US-Iran pause in fighting

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed the US-Iran two-week ceasefire on Tuesday, his spokesperson said, while urging all parties to work toward long-term peace in the Middle East.

“The Secretary-General welcomes the announcement of a two-week ceasefire by the United States and Iran,” his spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said in a statement.

He added that the UN chief “calls on all the parties to the current conflict in the Middle East to comply with their obligations under international law and to abide by the terms of the ceasefire in order to pave the way toward a lasting and comprehensive peace in the region.”

Germany thanks Pakistan for role in securing agreement

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on Wednesday the German government welcomed the two-week ceasefire agreed between the United States and Iran.

“The aim now must be to negotiate a lasting end to the war in the coming days,” he said in a statement. “This can only be achieved through diplomatic channels.”

India welcomes US-Iran ceasefire

India’s Ministry of External Affairs said that “We welcome the ceasefire reached and hope that it will lead to a lasting peace in West Asia. As we have continuously advocated earlier, de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy are essential to bring an early end to the ongoing conflict.’

“The conflict has already caused immense suffering to people and disrupted global energy supply and trade networks. We expect that unimpeded freedom of navigation and global flow of commerce would prevail through the Strait of Hormuz,” the statement added.

Malaysia’s PM praises Pakistan’s efforts in achieving a ceasefire

Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed congratulations and appreciation to Pakistan and PM Shehbaz Sharif for their tireless and courageous diplomatic efforts that helped bring about a crucial ceasefire.

“I once again extend our sincere congratulations and deep appreciation to Pakistan and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for the tireless and courageous diplomacy that helped bring this moment about,” he posted on X.

“Pakistan’s willingness to speak to all sides, without fear or favour, reflects the highest traditions of Muslim solidarity and international responsibility. Malaysia stands ready to support and complement all efforts in this regard,” PM Ibrahim added.

UK praises Pakistan’s diplomatic role in ceasefire

British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott praised the development, saying on X, “Thank you, Pakistan, for the quiet, effective, diplomatic role you have played in bringing about this vital ceasefire.”

New Zealand praises Pakistan’s role in ceasefire

New Zealand’s Foreign Minister Winston Peters thanked Pakistan, Turkiye, and Egypt for their efforts.

In a post on X, he said, “New Zealand welcomes the announcements by the United States and Iran over the past few hours as we welcome all efforts to bring an end to this conflict.

While this is encouraging news, there remains significant important work to be done in the coming days to secure a lasting ceasefire.

We are grateful for the work of Pakistan, and others such as Turkiye and Egypt, to seek to find a solution to the crisis.”

Kazakhstan hails Pakistan’s mediation in US-Iran truce

Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev also lauded Pakistan’s mediation, noting that the agreement was “reached with the mediation of Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan, Field Marshal Asim Munir.”

He added that the truce became possible due to “the goodwill and wisdom of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, and the senior leadership of Iran, as well as all countries involved in the military conflict.”

The president expressed hope that the ceasefire will be long-lasting and contribute to global trade and economic prosperity.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has welcomed the two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran, calling it a positive step toward de-escalation.

Albanese criticised US President Donald Trump’s earlier threat to target Iran’s civilian infrastructure, saying such language was “not appropriate” and could cause concern.

Speaking to Sky News Australia, he said, “What we have called for is a de-escalation, and that is what has occurred, and that’s a good thing. This is positive news. We’ve been calling for a de-escalation for some time.

We want to see a resolution of the conflict.”
