The Prime Minister (PM) of Pakistan, Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Shareef, while addressing the cabinet today, revealed that the Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, stayed awake for many nights during his efforts to bring peace.
Today, the United States (US) and Iran agreed on a ceasefire that was brokered by Pakistan, an effort by the PM and CDF Field Marshal Asim Munir.
Pakistan is also set to host talks between the US and Iran on Friday this week, on April 10, 2026.
In this regard, the federal capital, Islamabad, has issued a two-day holiday, on Thursday, April 9 and Friday, April 10.
During his address, the PM also said that this war was an effort to make brothers fight each other.
The PM stated, “On my invitation, delegations from Iran and the United States will visit Pakistan on Friday.”
The prime minister further said, “Today, Allah has blessed Pakistan and its 240 million people with dignity and honour. This respect achieved by Pakistan is the result of our collective efforts.”
He noted that global tensions were escalating rapidly, adding, “The flames of war were engulfing the world, but they have been extinguished for two weeks. If Allah wills, they will be put out permanently.”
He added, “Allah did not will for brothers to fight each other.”
He called the moment historic, saying, “The honour granted to Pakistan is unprecedented. The journey towards a ceasefire was achieved through sleepless nights. Saudi Arabia clearly stated that it stands with Pakistan.”
He also highlighted economic relief, saying,“In neighbouring countries, people were standing in long queues for petrol, and clashes were taking place.”
PM Shehbaz also thanked President Asif Ali Zardari, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Aleem Khan, and all cabinet members, including Sohail Afridi, for their contributions.
He concluded by saying that institutions around the world are praising Pakistan today, adding, “Such a moment has never been witnessed before.”
‘The Deputy Prime Minister worked day and night with his team,’ he said.
‘I pay tribute to Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for his success. Field Marshal Asim Munir has been awake for many nights. Field Marshal Asim Munir is our great hero,’ the PM further added.
‘I also thank the Iranian and American leadership; Iran and US have appreciated Pakistan’s efforts. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian responded positively’, he said.
He also thanked Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia, other friendly countries, and Pakistan’s dear friend, China.
