In the ongoing Pakistan Super League season 11, a tense moment unfolded during the match between Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi when fast bowler Obaid Shah delivered a sharp and dangerous bouncer directed at star batter Babar Azam.
The incident occurred in the fifth over of Peshawar Zalmi’s innings when a batter had already been dismissed for 40 runs. On the very next delivery, Obaid Shah bowled a short-pitched ball that Babar Azam failed to connect with, and it struck him on the neck, causing visible discomfort.
Medical staff were immediately called onto the field as Babar Azam appeared to be in pain. After a quick assessment by the physio, he was cleared to continue batting. Showing resilience, Babar Azam went on to score 43 runs off 40 deliveries before eventually being dismissed by Usama Mir.
However, Peshawar Zalmi defeated Lahore Qalandars by 76 runs. Chasing a target of 174 runs set by Peshawar Zalmi at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi, Lahore Qalandars were bowled out for 97 runs in 17 overs. Kushal Mendis was named the player of the match for his innings of 74 runs.
Fakhar Zaman and Abdullah Shafique were dismissed for 21 runs each, while Donath Vilalaghe scored 20 runs. For Peshawar Zalmi, Michael Bracewell and Sufyan Meqam took three wickets each, while Naheed Rana took two wickets.
The defending champions, Lahore Qalandars, won the toss and chose to bowl first against Peshawar Zalmi. Batting first, Peshawar Zalmi set a target of 174 runs. Mendis stood out with an aggressive 74-run innings, while captain Babar Azam made a valuable contribution with 43 runs to help the team’s total.
