Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to playing a full role in extending the ongoing Iran–US ceasefire, praising the positive contribution of the country’s leadership in facilitating dialogue and reiterating Pakistan’s resolve to support sustained global diplomatic engagement for a permanent truce.
He made these remarks while addressing a federal cabinet meeting held on Monday under his chairmanship. The cabinet session conducted a detailed review of the situation following the Islamabad talks and was briefed on the country’s current internal and external developments.
The Federal Cabinet members paid tribute to the reconciliation efforts of the Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Minister, and the Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
While praising the positive role of Pakistan’s leadership in facilitating the talks, PM Shehbaz Sharif stated that a temporary ceasefire has been reached between Iran and the US through the wisdom of Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
According to media reports, a report on petroleum products, reserves, and the country’s energy situation was presented. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar also briefed the cabinet on the ceasefire in the Middle East and Pakistan’s mediation role.
The cabinet expressed its determination to play an active role in ensuring that the progress achieved during the Islamabad talks is not lost. Pakistan has decided to intensify its diplomatic efforts to achieve lasting peace in the region.
The federal cabinet emphasised that Pakistan will continue to play a constructive role in reducing tensions and promoting peace. The Prime Minister directed relevant authorities to strengthen diplomatic efforts, stating that Pakistan will work with all stakeholders to transform the ceasefire into long-term peace. He noted that regional peace is essential for global economic stability.
The cabinet described the continuation of the Iran–US ceasefire as vital for global peace and reaffirmed Pakistan’s role as a “bridge” for a peaceful resolution of the conflict. It also proposed developing a joint action plan in coordination with Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Qatar.
The meeting also reviewed technical proposals aimed at removing obstacles to a permanent ceasefire. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif urged all parties to work towards establishing a lasting ceasefire to ensure enduring peace.
