The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast widespread rain and thunderstorms across Pakistan starting this week.

According to the PMD, a westerly weather system is expected to enter the northwestern regions on April 16 and continue affecting upper parts of the country until April 19. Under its influence, rain, thunderstorms, and isolated heavy falls, including hailstorms, are likely in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, Balochistan, Punjab, and Islamabad.

The department has warned of potential landslides in vulnerable mountainous areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir between April 17 and 19. It also cautioned that heavy rainfall could trigger flash floods in regions such as Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Batgram, Chitral, and the Neelum Valley.

Officials further highlighted that strong winds, lightning, and hailstorms may damage weak structures and standing crops during the forecast period. Farmers have been advised to plan agricultural activities carefully, while tourists and travellers are urged to avoid unnecessary movement.

Pakistan, considered among the countries most vulnerable to climate change, has experienced increasingly unpredictable weather in recent years. Since late last month, at least 68 people have lost their lives due to heavy rains, underscoring ongoing challenges in infrastructure and disaster preparedness.

Pakistan weather forecast

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert across the country from April 12 to 17 due to possible severe weather conditions.

Islamabad, Murree, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Sialkot are expected to receive rain with thunder, strong winds, and possible hailstorms from April 13 to 17.

Weather forecast Karachi

Hot weather is expected to be experienced in Karachi because of the intense sunshine and reduced wind speeds, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department.

As per the Met office in the city previously, mild heatwave-like conditions have started, and warm weather is likely to continue in the coming three days.

A day earlier than this, the NDMA issued a warning about potential dangers and disasters due to rainfall.

It forecast thunderstorms, strong winds, and hail in various parts of the country over the next 12 to 24 hours.
